Amazing ice lighthouse
The British Winter of 2010 was the coldest for a century. But, while we were consumed by a lack of Brussels sprouts, slippery driveways and ineffectual train services, the rest of the world was also receiving a bone-chilling battering. These amazing pictures from lake Erie Ohio, show a one hundred year old lighthouse, entombed in ice after the worst December storms in living memory plagued the Midwest.
Looking more like a fairy castle than a lighthouse, the phenomenon was created by sub-zero temperatures causing water to freeze in multiple layers around the structure. It made night time marine navigation near impossible, but provided a perfect opportunity for photographers.
