Amazing Himalayan golf course

Forget Augusta, forget St Andrews and forget the Belfry. For a truly exceptional golfing experience, tee off at the amazing Himalayan Golf Course in Pokhara, Nepal. Set within a canyon made from melting snow water and surrounded by some of the world’s largest mountains, this is the most unique golf course on earth.

Set over a championship 6,900 feet, the par 73 course twice-played 9 hole has 11 greens, the world’s only natural natural river island hole, and a club house 250 feet above the canyon to watch the action from a bird’s eye view.

The course was designed and constructed by an Ex British Army officer, Major Ram Gurung, MBE, and opened for play in January 1998. Major Ram Gurung was exclusively invited to take up the challenge to carve a 9 holes Golf Course from what was previously a desolate wasteland of river boulders and swamps. Says major Ram, “It’s been my goal to preserve the natural environment so you can experience the beautiful and inspiring Nepali scenery while at the same time playing a challenging round of golf. The enchantment of this course has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.”

The green fees are keen considering the average wage in Nepal is less than $200 p.a. 9-holes will cost $35 while 18 will cost $45. Shoe hire is $5 while the hire of a caddy is $2.
