Amazing jetman races planes
“When I’m older, I want to be a jetman,” I remember mentioning to my parents after seeing Michael Jackson exit the stage on his Dangerous tour.
“You’ll have to be a fighter pilot first, son,” muttered Dad over the top of the paper.
And that was the end of it. Another glib dream conferred to the annuls of time.
Not so for Swiss pilot Yves Rossy. After a successful career as a fighter pilot, he upped the ante and became a human bullet!
The 51 year old Swiss has flown over the Grand Canyon, English Channel and now, has raced two Albatross jets over the Swiss alps.
Unlike fellow daredevils Dean Potter and Jean Yves Blondeau who use gravity and human power to perform their stunts, Rossy has a custom-made 54kg quad-engined wing strapped to his back which can propel him at speeds in excess of 125 mph.
